⚷ Chiron Study ⚷How to interpret Chironin your Natal Chart
This is going to be a guide on my process for interpreting the Chiron Placement in your Natal Chart. I won’t be going through Chiron in the signs or houses here, so if you want to know more about yours, I advise looking it up on Google! I will be using my “guinea pig” with an 8H Gemini Chiron as an example, so if you have an 8H or Gemini Chiron, lucky you! You get some insight, lol. Anyways, without further adieu…
General Chiron Info
Chiron is the "wounded healer". It represents our greatest pain, wounds & traumas, but also our greatest strengths & healing powers. It shows the area of our life where we are sensitive, where we need to accept, grow, & heal. Chiron is also our service to others & what we feel is missing, unjust, or what we feel we need to get rid of. Chiron represents where we are most fragmented, alone, & hurt.
How to interpret Chiron
1) Identify the Chiron Placement: (EX: 29° 8H Gemini + its aspects)
2) Determine whether it’s a high-aspected or low-aspected Chiron. There’s a difference in how it manifests! I'll explain in detail later.
3) Break down & interpret your Chiron in INDIVIDUAL PIECES: (EX: How does a 29° Chiron manifest? What is a Gemini Chiron? What is an 8H Chiron? etc.)
4) Check the aspects that your Chiron is making & identify them individually. Some of them may not seem like they resonate yet, but just wait! You'll put the puzzle together later.
5) Examine your Lunar Nodes to identify what your life’s path is (North Node) & what traits you came into the world with this lifetime (South Node).
6) Examine your Sun to identify how you express your life’s path.
7) Examine your Moon to identify how the wounds are expressed through our protective & escapist patterns.
8) Compile all this information to now identify the core of your wound(s). They are directly linked to your Sun, Moon, & Nodes which is why you need to go through them! But don’t only focus on the negative things. By going through all the pieces of the chart, you should be able to find what your gifts & healing talents are! We are all born with one.
9) At this point, you will identify what part of the “Chiron Cycle” you are on. I will explain what this is later.
10) Check transits FROM Chiron to your natal planets to see what areas of your life are being triggered right now. Certain transits will increase your opportunities for growth along your Chiron Cycle, while other transits will force your trauma to the surface.
11) Based on your Chiron placement, current transits, & the part of the Chiron Cycle you’re on, you will be able to create goals for yourself & find methods to help you heal.
Case Study: 29° 8H Gemini Chiron: Going through the steps
★ Step 1: Identify the placement you are working with.
I am going to be using a 29° 8H Gemini that is aspecting the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Uranus, Saturn, & Neptune.
Here is their chart for reference:
Guinea Pig's Natal Chart |
★ Step 2: Is Chiron highly or lowly aspected?
I’d consider a Chiron that has 3+ aspects to planets a highly aspected one. The difference is:
- A high aspected Chiron creates high awareness of wounds & trauma. Pain is extremely relevant in your life. You will also be very aware of your healing path, regardless of whether you decide to actually take it or not.
- A low aspected Chiron creates a poor awareness of your wounds & healing path. Your life’s focus is not in the area of healing & you will walk your journey without the burden of your wounds sitting on your consciousness.
Because my Guinea Pig has a highly aspected Chiron, they will always be aware of the trauma & many things in their life will trigger it because it is aspected by all of their personal planets.
★ Step 3: Break down the placement into every piece:
The only things visible on the chart are the planets & points aspecting Guinea Pig's Chiron (which is a lot, lol) |
★ Step 3: Break down the placement into every piece:
(by degree - 29°, sign - Gemini, house - 8H)
- Degree
The 29° in Astrology is known as a “critical degree” or “anaretic degree”. It’s regarded as the “degree of fate”, symbolizing major transitions & the end of a cycle. It’s also said to be a malefic degree, a sign that whatever planet/house/sign that is at this degree is sensitive & will undergo many challenges. This is EXTREMELY important & its meaning will need to be integrated into Chiron's interpretation.
29° indicates that you have been escaping from your issues in past lifetimes. Many issues are brought to a head & all wounds are made visible to force your healing & growth. This life you're FORCED to deal with them, so evolution must take place this lifetime.
- Sign
The sign that Chiron is in will show how the problems are showing up in someone’s life. Gemini is an Air, Mutable, Positive sign that rules over the mind, communication, & changeable ideas. This lets us know that Guinea Pig’s trauma is shown through a lack of expressing their thoughts.
Interpretations for their Gemini Chiron:
Interpretations for their Gemini Chiron:
- Feeling unable to communicate with others.
- Fear of speaking the truth.
- Fear of an inability to fit in socially.
- Feeling uneducated, so seeks knowledge of the many.
- Never stops assimilating information.
- Often feels misunderstood & has unclear intentions.
- Finds comfort in/escapes from the wounds to whatever house the Chiron is in.
(8H = other's resources, intimacy, etc) but it causes more pain.
- Suffers from other's opinions of you.
- The thoughts that you formulate in your mind are not the ones that you express.
- You are obsessed with mental health & relaxation in order to ease your restless mind.
- Often doesn't feel heard or acknowledged, so you feel like your thoughts need to be kept to yourself.
- House
The Houses are areas of life, so Chiron’s house placement will show where you have these problems. My Guinea Pig’s Chiron is in the 8H, which is the area of life that surrounds intimacy, loss, changes, other’s resources, therapy, trauma, baggage, death, research, doubt, the occult & taboo. Chiron can show itself in any (or all) of these topics that fall under the 8H, but because I know Guinea Pig personally, I am able to identify that their Chiron is specifically tied to loss, their identity, & expression in intimate relationships because of the tight conjunction to their Sun, Mercury, & Venus.
Interpretations for their 8H Chiron:
Interpretations for their 8H Chiron:
- The wound is coming from the people that you love, care about, & trust.
- They often break/fail your expectations.
- Wounds mostly stem around intimacy.
- They were probably "spotty" with acknowledging your needs.
- People take you for granted.
- You have a strong attraction to other hurt people & have an intense desire to heal their suffering.
- People that have built up trauma, or ones that are into different forms of spiritualism, therapy, psychology, Astrology, etc. are very drawn to you because you have the gifts to heal pain.
- Sacrifices A LOT, giving everything & no one ever helps healing process. This manifests in 2 ways: Either they turn their back on you, or you retreat, seeking solace elsewhere.
- Tries to find happiness through some form of intimacy/sex because you want to feel needed.
- Craves affection deep down, but afraid of it.
- Builds many walls of protection.
- Very familiar with pain that you make "light" of your own loss.
★ Step 4: Break down each aspect to your Chiron.
Guinea Pig’s only major aspects to their Chiron are Conjunctions & Oppositions. These are hard aspects, which are intense in nature. The conjunctions show that there is a unity between their pain & entire identity because all the personal planets are conjunct Chiron. The oppositions to Chiron represent confliction, unsettled, & unsatisfied energy in life. There will be a need to balance both sides (balance of the 2H/8H axis) of their chart in order to heal. Here’s where we evaluate how each planet aspecting Chiron manifests. Think about the nature of Gemini, the 8H, & the 2H for the oppositions as you’re interpreting the aspects to each planet.
Sun - Our core, guiding light, purpose, ego, confidence, life energy.
- Chiron ☌ Sun: Destined to express themes of the Chiron placement. Themes include 'coming out of the darkness & allowing the self to shine'. Healer & teacher. Can't separate yourself from your wounds/trauma nor your healing path. It's a part of your identity.
Moon - Our emotions, soul, deepest needs, habits, instincts.
- Chiron ☌ Moon: Retreats when things get too painful.
Mercury - Our mind, curiosity, siblings. How we learn, communicate, think, solve problems, perceive things.
- Chiron ☌ Mercury: Ability to express messages of Chiron, but in non-verbal/emotional ways. Inability to express wounds outwardly. Inability to express yourself verbally drives you to find other ways to communicate. (8H is why you rely on others verbal communication & intimacy). Will be reclusive & secretive. Socially dysfunctional; tugs between social desire & hiding. Inspires the self & others to do deep introspection.
Venus - Planet of pleasure, our tastes, desires, peace, attraction, art & beauty. Vengeance & jealousy.
- Chiron ☌ Venus: Deep longing for connection with others, not wanting to be alone, yet flighty! Feels others pain, creating an impulsive desire to rescue & fix them. You need to change how you view love & relationships. Unconditional love is your subconscious desire, but you need to learn that love ≠ dependency (For you & your partners).
Saturn - The Gatekeeper; restraining, imposing rules, building structure, & honoring traditions. Order, discipline, maturity, patience, lessons.
- Chiron ☍ Saturn: Ponders identity often. Encouraged & driven by life & its limitations. When things get painful, you retreat back to what you know works, conservative values, etc. This aspect can show a sort of negative attitude towards others.
Uranus - Things new, unique, radical, innovative, free.
- Chiron ☍ Uranus: This aspect shines a light on the wounds, making them almost impossible to run away from. Instead, you seek escapist methods like drugs, overworking yourself, gaming, exercise, sleep, sex, etc. Attempts to escape will affect your physical & mental health negatively.
Neptune - Imagination, music, art, spirituality, love, dreams, otherworldly desires, unconscious, escape, sacrifice, & confusion.
- Chiron ☍ Neptune: Chiron's influence is felt & known to your soul. Often creates alternate realities within the mind. Love is ultimately your greatest healer.
★ Step 5: Examine your Lunar Nodes to find the connection between them & your Chiron.
When interpreting Chiron, the context of your life path/direction is important. You must find the gifts & the issues that you came into life with (South Node), then find your current purpose in this life (North Node).
My Guinea Pig has a 5H Pisces NN/11H Virgo SN. In short, this can manifest an erratic, restless lifestyle due to the mutable energy, but they are normally well equipped to handle changes in life. They have the abilities to network & manage groups of people & friends, however, this lifetime they need to learn to focus on the self & love. The issues, gifts, & purpose I go into detail about will be directly correlated to their Node placements.
Things that are normal/natural to them, Issues that this lifetime has brought them:
Their life is very intense, always doing something, constantly having to navigate through friends, family, romance, work stress, drama, etc. all the while trying to stick with a routine. They have a laid-back personality, but they seem to be almost always scrambling through life, trying to be available for everyone & anyone. They're obsessed with the need to relax. They deal with pain through dismissal; portrays themselves as accepting of their pain but they don't truly process it & opt to just move on with they life, escaping from situations that bring it back to the surface.
The gifts they came into life with:
They came into this life with the gift of serving others, community, & managing/adapting to the situations around them. They can network & befriend others easily because people naturally like them. They are very observant & analytical. They came into this life feeling as though they should belong to a group, but they detach themselves from close, emotional, romantic connections.
Their life's current purpose:
Creativity is a powerful tool for them. They should move towards things that they are truly passionate about. They need to embrace their inner child, focus more on pleasure for themselves, & care more for their heart. Give into actual romance & be less afraid of creating more personal connections. Become more optimistic, give into their spiritual side & less of the logical, analytical view of the world. Learn more about their own form of self-expression.
Their life's purpose is to express their true self to the people that they are close to & embrace their creativity. Their Mars ☌ NN makes them strong enough to do this.
★ Step 6: Examine your Sun placement to identify how you express your pain, your gifts, & your life’s path.
When interpreting Chiron, the context of your outer self & expression is important because this will describe how your pain makes you act in the world. These will be the things that you deal with on a mostly external level, through your family, friends, romance, career, etc. The house placement of your Sun & any planet aspecting it will affect what area of life that your Chiron is expressed through. For my Guinea Pig, the Sun is in the 8H, conjunct Chiron, so there will be an immediate, direct expression of their wounds because it is merged with their identity.
For this interpretation to make sense, think about everything that we’ve broken down before. You have to consider the 8H, Gemini, & every planet that is tightly aspecting the Sun. Then combine the wounds of Chiron to determine how the 8H Gemini Sun will express the 8H Gemini Chiron. Keep in mind that this person has an 8H Gemini Stellium & an 5H Pisces Mars that squares the entire Stellium. Because this interpretation has so many factors due to a highly aspected Sun, to help understand, I will put what aspect/placement is creating the expression after each keyword in parenthesis.
The expression of their pain & their life's path:
They express through the rational mind (Gemini), but they lack confidence & enthusiasm for expressing their thoughts (Gemini Sun/Mercury ☌ Chiron). Instead, they express through non-verbal forms, intimacy, & a desire to please (8H). This creates co-dependent relationships where instead of an actual partnership, what's formed is a relationship where one needs to give & the other needs to receive in order to feel good about themselves (8H).
They are curious about everything & have a charitable, loving, courageous, giving heart (8H Gemini Sun ☌ Venus). They have a secret artistic expression (8H Venus). They always want to be actively doing something, they're good at competitive tasks, fighting, sports, etc, (Sun □ Mars) but they're also in the pursuit of peace (Venus). This creates a mind that's at war with itself & gives them some sort of mental overdrive (Gemini Sun ☌ Moon ☌ Mercury □ Mars), feeling insignificant, wanting to be seen as important to someone, issues with authority (Sun □ Mars/Sun ☍ Saturn), only trusting the self, feeling lonely, & alienated.
They're good at digging deep, collecting information, & finding the psyche of others & themselves (8H Stellium). A lot of the things that happen in their life are very sudden; they move & travel a lot (Gemini 8H). They need a job that isn't stagnant because they are so accustomed to change that any job they get too comfortable with, they will leave (Gemini). Their career & ego go through many ups, downs, & transformations (Ruler of the 10H - Sun - in Gemini 8H).
★ Step 7: Examine your Moon placement to identify how the wounds are expressed through your instinctive responses, habits, & protective/escapist patterns.
When interpreting Chiron, the context of your inner self & emotions is important because this will describe how your pain makes you instinctively & unconsciously react to certain situations, what habits you’ve formed because of it, & how you protect yourself from hurt. These will be the things that you deal with on a mostly internal level, through your feelings & close personal relationships. Again, keep in mind that Guinea Pig’s Moon is in their 8H Gemini Stellium & square Mars.
How their wounds are expressed through their protective/escapist patterns:
They build walls to protect themselves by avoiding direct expression & keeping their true thoughts & feelings to themselves out of a fear of judgment & criticism. Because of this, they depreciate their own skills or hide them, making it hard to believe in themselves & their ideas. They are obsessed with gathering knowledge to understand themselves because of a fear that if they don't understand themselves, no one else will. But they build up barriers & lock themselves away, so how could anyone even get to know them? This creates a mind that's uneasy & in turmoil.
★ Step 8: Compile all the interpretations to identify the core of your wounds, how you’re driven in life due to your wounds, as well as your gifts & healing talents.
The core of my Guinea Pig’s wounds is that they’ve dealt with many changes & losses in their life that have affected the way that they are able to communicate to others. This mostly affects their intimate relationships, making them more prone to secrecy out of a fear of expressing their thoughts.
They are driven through loss, pain, & suffering in multiple areas of their life, but it mostly stems from their inability to communicate their thoughts through words, relying on non-verbal forms, intimacy, & sacrifice. Nothing is ever returned to them, resulting in them feeling lost, alone, & misunderstood. This drives them to dive deep into themselves to figure out who they are.
My Guinea Pig’s Gifts + Healing Talents are:
- Non-verbal communication.
- Gifted with recognizing & embracing unique bundles of intelligence.
- Unmatched intuitive understanding & communication.
- Gifted with the spiritual, unseen, shadow work, identifying the inner self in them & others, & other realms of life.
- Pain makes them stronger instead of breaking them.
- Gifted with feeling others' pain & has amazing healing powers. Leaves a mark on everyone they touch.
★ Step 9: What part of the “Chiron Cycle” are you on?
Chiron makes a few major transits to your Natal Chiron in your life, marking different stages of your life’s trauma & healing. These Chiron - Chiron transits reveal our wounds to us in different ways, & depending on what other transits we have going on at the time & of course depending on our personal life experience, we will either acknowledge them, work on healing them, or we will ignore or run away from our wounds.
The Chiron Cycle focuses on the cycle of Sextiles, Squares, Trines, & Quincunxes between the Opposition & the Conjunction (Return). I’m going to briefly explain the significance of the 1st & 2nd Square & Trine as well as the Opposition & Conjunction.
- The 1st Chiron - Chiron □ is when you first become consciously aware of your wounds, but you will be unable to do anything to tend to them.
- The 1st Chiron - Chiron △ is where you begin to gain clarity of your wounds & start to grasp perspectives on what you may need to do to heal them, even if you can’t heal them quite yet.
- The Chiron - Chiron ☍ creates intense pulls on your wounds. If you ignored them during the other transits then you WILL feel your Chiron here. If you have acknowledged them, you will begin to see the bigger picture of why you went through what you did & what you need to do to heal, & you will begin to take steps towards healing. If you try to shove your issues down or run away from them, this transit will make you feel directionless, unbalanced, & lost.
- The 2nd Chiron - Chiron △ should have you feeling more aligned than how you were during your opposition, & you will be granted with more opportunities to act on your healing.
- The 2nd Chiron - Chiron □ brings up regrets & resentment towards the causes of your pain. If you’ve worked on your trauma by this point though, you will be equipped to deal with the issues that arise. If you haven’t, you will feel great loss & pain.
- The Chiron - Chiron ☌ marks the end of the cycle of wounds if you dealt with your issues. They will still resurface at this time, but you will feel at ease, knowing that you’ve grown. If you’re still avoiding acknowledging your trauma during this transit, the cycle repeats & you will still be burdened by the same wounds.
Guinea Pig has recently completed their 2nd Chiron - Chiron square. They are approaching the next Chiron - Chiron sextile, so using this period to work on themselves will greatly benefit them when that transit arises. If they use this time wisely between now & their return, they will be able to end this cycle of pain once the conjunction hits.
★ Step 10: Check transits to your natal Chiron from other planets to see what areas of your life are being triggered right now.
Certain transits to your Chiron will increase your opportunities for growth along your Chiron Cycle, while other transits to Chiron will force your trauma to the surface. Taking note of which transits that you are dealing with right now will help you identify how you will deal with your current & future Chiron - Chiron transits.
Guinea Pig is currently (April 2022) going through a few planet to natal Chiron Squares. Squares will always trigger things coming to the forefront of your life. They are not always bad though! They are actually great sometimes because they force growth out of you. In their particular case, these transits work well for their healing:
- □ Venus: At the moment, their close-personal relationships are triggering their wounds. They will need to pause & reassess these relationships & the role that they play in the trigger of their trauma. This transit makes them question their ability to give & receive love. They need to take time to consider what kind of relationships they want & whether or not they actually want/need them.
- □ Jupiter: This transit is good for broadening their perspective in the house it's placed in (7H - relationships, enemies, business). If they use this time wisely, they will take great strides to see the whole, bigger picture & start taking steps towards it.
- □ Neptune: This transit manifests some unpredictable calls to their heart, guiding them towards love in their life. This transit identifies that tending to the wound of communication will grant them the gift of love. They will be more driven to see the love that is hidden from them/by them which will move them towards healing & a feeling of 'oneness'. This is an important, long lasting transit for transformation.
- △ Saturn: This increases their opportunities & connections to their healing journey & a resolution of the wounds that they have. This is a time where they are beginning to take themselves & their healing more seriously.
Based on these transits, Guinea Pig will be undergoing massive transformation in the upcoming years (Since Chiron is currently in Aries, it’ll take a while before it’s next transit) in the realm of relationships, being that Venus, Neptune, & Jupiter (which is located in their 7H), has to deal with love & partnerships. The squares to these planets force a relationship into their life to deal with their trauma, & the Saturn trine brings about a good, instead of harsh, opportunity for a relationship to start opening up their outlook on the world, resulting in progression towards healing.
★ Step 11: Based on your Chiron placement, current transits, & the part of the Chiron Cycle you’re on, you will be able to create goals for yourself & find methods to help you heal.
On this final step, you want to think about how the Chiron manifests in your chart, & using that, create methods that you can actively follow to heal your trauma. I include analyzing the transits because you can utilize the planet’s energy to strengthen your work & set goals for yourself. A tip I find useful is to seek guidance from the topics/area of life in the house opposite of your Chiron as well as looking at the house of the NN. Those house’s energies will help you find the tools for healing.
Because Guinea Pig’s Chiron & Gemini Stellium is in the 8H & their outer planets are opposing it in the 2H, finding a balance between these energies is imperative. Most of the weight is on the 8H side, so looking to the 2H as well as the 5H (house of the chart ruler & NN) will be the keys to tending their Chiron. These are some goals & methods for healing that I’ve set up for Guinea Pig to help guide them in the right direction:
- Instead of all the introspection, seek guidance from the outside to identify the core of your issues. Therapy will work wonders for you.
- You need to let go of the fear of judgment & accept that there are some like-minded people out there who will allow you to express & be yourself.
- Find the connection that calms you, similar to how you calm others. Once you find that, you will begin to let go & trust yourself more, love your inner self, your inner thoughts, & your intuition.
- Learn that you don't need to sacrifice yourself to gain fulfillment.
- Your healing journey will begin once you start developing a sense of real independence & being alone, while maintaining healthy connections with others.
- You need to learn to love yourself before others, then your relationships will go more smoothly. They will respect you, your boundaries, & your needs more.
- It will help for you to bypass your intellect/logic to access & embrace your wounds.
- Your ultimate goal is for you to embrace your inner self & love yourself unconditionally.
BOOM! There you have it. A pretty well interpreted Chiron! Do you understand the core of your issues now? More importantly, have you found a way to work on yourself? Thanks for reading, I hope that this guide was useful to you!
